Going Green for St. Patrick’s Day

While you may be decked out in your green gear today, who says going green has to stop on St. Patrick’s Day? Use these tips to reduce your energy consumption, and give back to the environment.

1. Recycle Household Items

From cardboard shipping boxes to glass, plastic, and aluminum cans and bottles, there are plenty of items we use on a daily basis that can be recycled. Check with your town to find out what items can be put out for recycling, and on what days. If you want to do even more for the environment, investing in reusable bottles, bags, and straws can help reduce your single-plastic usage.

2. Replace Lightbulbs

If you’re tired of your lightbulbs burning out quickly and want to save on your electrical costs, consider investing in energy-efficient LED light bulbs. These eco-friendly bulbs can use 75-80% less energy than incandescent bulbs.

3. Take Showers Over Baths

While a nice, hot bath can be a great way to relax once in a while, they’re not as relaxing on the environment. Did you know that one bath can use over 30 gallons of water? On average, showers typically only use 10-25 gallons, depending on the length. Adding a low-flow showerhead is another way to reduce your water consumption.

4. Change the Temperature on Your Thermostat

In addition to helping the environment, lowering your thermostat is a great way to also reduce your utility costs. Utilizing a programmable thermostat can help ensure that your home’s temperature is always properly moderated, allowing you to customize your desired heating or cooling preferences. To save more, you can also lower your water heater to 120 degrees.

5. Be Mindful of Your Water Consumption

From shutting the faucet when you brush your teeth to taking shorter showers, when we think about how much water we use in the home, we tend to think of plenty of ways to cut back. Also, washing only full loads of laundry and dishes conserves water usage, and also cuts down on the wear and tear of your washing machine and your dishwasher.

We love our Kinetico whole-home water treatment system.  No residue around our faucets.  No smelly well water.  My wife loves what Kinetico water does for her hair and skin and the Sherck boys LOVE the Kinetico K5 Drinking System (They fill their water bottles before hockey and soccer practices).

Clean, healthy, great-tasing water.  That is Kinetico!”
