The Link Between Breast Cancer and Chemicals in Tap Water

Studies on the water we drink — whether from the store or our home tap water — have shown that there is a potential risk of exposure to many minerals and containments. However, there is a grave risk that the contaminants found in tap water are mammary carcinogens and endocrine-increasing compounds. These toxins have been thought to be linked to the possible increase of breast cancer risk. Here’s what you need to know to protect your health:

Where Do These Compounds Come From?

There are about 17 different kinds of toxic chemicals that researchers have linked to mammary tumors. These chemicals cause cells to mutate and become cancerous. Gasoline, flame retardants, and other compounds formed by combustion are some of the largest sources of mammary carcinogens that can enter our waterways. Exposure to these dangerous carcinogens in our drinking water can come from three primary sources:

  • Excreted pharmaceutical and natural hormones
  • Byproducts of solvents or disinfectants
  • Nitrates released by the farming industry

Is Your Drinking Water Clean?

It’s estimated that around 12,600 cases of cancer a year are a result of nitrate exposure. Additionally, nitrates have been linked to other health concerns for infants and can cause birth defects.

While the Environmental Protection Agency is tasked with lowering the number of nitrates that enter our water supply due to the farming industry, it’s up to us to ensure the health of our families. Some towns and cities, however, do remove nitrates, but the best way to keep your family safe is to install a carbon block drinking water filtration system.

At Aquarius, our Kinetico in-house water purification and softener systems are designed to get right to the problem and make your water clean, clear, and delicious. To schedule your free in-home water analysis and quote call us at 888-741-9025 or contact us online today.

I tell my family and friends on and off the air, that I trust Aquarius. They installed my new cooling and heating system, a much-loved tankless water heater and have taken care of my water concerns for years. They are great at what they do and I am so proud to recommend them.
