How to Remove Those Blue/Green Stains From Your Bathroom

Is your bathroom sparkling like that of one in a five-star hotel? Why of course not! Because most bathrooms aren’t cleaned on an everyday basis like those are. In fact, many bathrooms aren’t even cleaned once per week and easily develop stains — like those blue/green ones you see around your plumbing fixtures.
What Are These Blue/Green Stains?
For anyone who notices this discoloration near a plumbing fixture, you most likely have copper piping. Copper eventually oxidizes which will create blue and green stains on sinks, bathtubs, showers, toilets, and the piping itself. These stains are oftentimes misdiagnosed as mold and are not a threat to your health — they’re just really ugly!
Top Metal Stain Removal Tips
- Create a paste by mixing together equal parts white vinegar, flour, and salt. Apply this paste to any copper stains in your bathroom. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes, then wash it away with some soap and water.
- Pour a generous amount of salt on your unsightly stain. Use a cloth to begin rubbing the salt thoroughly onto the discoloration (be careful not to use an abrasive scrubber). Thankfully, salt has magical metal stain cleaning abilities that are perfect for copper buildup.
- Like salt, lemon also has metal stain cleaning abilities. Apply salt to the affected area and begin scrubbing it with a halved lemon. This may sound strange but the results are phenomenal!
