How to Remove Hard Water Stains From Your Toilet
Successfully keeping your home’s toilets clean is a never-ending job — especially when you have hard water. On top of any dust and debris (all kinds of debris…), those with hard water will also have to worry about water stains. Luckily, there’s an easy way to remove these stains so you can sit upon a sparkling throne!
Step 1: Pre-Cleaning
Okay, before you do anything — make sure you shut the water off leading to the toilet. Turn the shutoff valve so it’s closed; it’s located conveniently behind the toilet. Then, give it a flush so you can work with a fresh canvas.
Step 2: Create Your Cleaner
Next, you’ll want to grab yourself some baking soda, white vinegar, and a small container. Add one to two cups of baking soda to your container, followed by a small amount vinegar — just enough to create a paste. Overdoing it with the vinegar will cause a reaction similar to a science fair project volcano.
Step 3: Application
Once your paste is ready to go, put on a set of rubber gloves and start spreading the paste onto your toilet bowl. Areas with bigger, tougher stains should receive more of the paste. After the toilet has been coated in your cleaning paste, let it sit for roughly 10 minutes.
Step 4: Scrubbed Clean
After 10 minutes has passed, begin scrubbing your toilet with your trusty toilet brush or even a wet pumice stone. Wipe clean any paste and residue that lies outside of the bowl itself.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Finally, open up the shutoff valve that you closed in the first step. Flush the toilet to remove any paste and residue that resides within the bowl. For any leftover stains you might’ve missed, repeat these steps until you are satisfied.
