Your clothes are stiff. Your towels are scratchy. Your skin and hair are dry, and you’ve just about had it with that persistent rust ring around your bathtub. If you’re nodding your head in agreement, it sounds like you’re ready to take the plunge and purchase a water softening system for your home. But, while you might be mentally prepared to embrace all the fantastic benefits of soft water, is your home physically ready for the new addition?
Signs Your Home is Prepared For a Water Softener:
Do you have a spot picked out?
The location of your water softening system is very important. For one, most people prefer to tuck their money-saving, skin-soothing, laundry-softening secret away. Why? Let’s be honest, would you really want to install a water conditioning appliance out in plain sight? We didn’t think so. When selecting the perfect spot, make sure it’s level, dry and that there’s an outlet close by.
Is the water main nearby?
As a rule of thumb, try to situate your new water softener as close to your home’s water main entry point as possible. That way, you’ll be confident that every drop of water entering your home has been treated before it hits your faucets. Remember, soft water isn’t intended for outdoor use and yard work, so keep the system working on indoor water only.
Is there a drain available?
After the harsh minerals are pulled from the incoming water by the resin beads, your water softener must regenerate itself. To do this, it has to “rinse” the resin beads in a brine solution to wash away those minerals and ready the beads for the next round of water softening. Having a drain close by just makes this process that much easier!
