3 Ways to Save Water While Washing Dishes
Today is National Use Less Stuff Day and we are always looking to be more efficient at Aquarius Home Services! Softening your water can help you do less stuff in the kitchen and doing less in the kitchen can lead to savings for you and your family. Here are three ways to save while you are cleaning up after dinner tonight:
Scrape Before You Rinse
The whole theme of today is to use less stuff and using less soap and water is a great place to start. If you scrape your plates BEFORE you go to rinse them, there won’t be as much work for the water to do. Think of the scrape as studying for a test. The better you prepare and study (scrape), the less work you will have to do during the test (washing) itself!
Soften Your Water
When water is hard, it is full of calcium and other minerals that leave a film on your dishes and make them more difficult to clean. Soft water makes the cleaning process that much easier and it will have you using less soap and less water in the process. This is one of the major benefits of using soft water vs hard water.
Fill the Sink First
Too many homeowners make the mistake of cleaning their dishes with running water. It might seem like you’re wasting water when you fill up the sink, but after a thorough rinsing, the fill-up method is far more conservative. Try filling your sink about halfway with warm water and pour 3-4 squirts of soap into the pool. You’ll use less soap, less water, and your dishes will be squeaky clean when it is all over!
